Kashiwa Sato:
Born in Tokyo in 1965. Graduate of the Department of Graphic Design at Tama Art University. Became independent in 2000 after working for Hakuhodo and founded creative studio Samurai in the same year.
Major works include the symbol mark design and sign scheme of the National Art Center Tokyo, UNIQLO global brand strategy and Rakuten Group as a brand architect,
package design and communication strategy for Kirin Lager Beer, private brand renewal for Seven-Eleven Japan,
VI and space direction for TSUTAYA TOKYO ROPPONGI, product designs for NTT docomo cell phones "FOMA N702iD, N703iD, N-07A" and "Kids Keitai SA800i and F801i",
art direction for the English education TV program ""Eigo de Asobo" on NHK as well as the design of Kebo and Mocchi, characters on the show,
and renewal projects for Meiji Gakuin University and Fuji Preschool in Tachikawa.
Satos creative works which are the products of his progressive point of view and strong visual development skills in a wide range of genres are highly acclaimed in various fields.
Recently, he has also been devoting time to introducing fine products/contents from Japan to abroad; Examples are branding for Imabari Towel and symbol mark design and creative direction for the Japan International Contents Festival.
Sato has written multiple books, including the best seller "Ultimate Method for Reaching the Essentials" (Nikkei Publishing Inc.) which sold more than 200 thousand copies, "Reaching the Solution; Kashiwa Sato’s Creative Thinking Techniques" (Nikkei Publishing Inc.), "Issatsu Marugoto Sato Kashiwa" (Hankyu Communications), and "Shochan to Chikyukun".
He has won various awards such as the Mainichi Design Award, Tokyo ADC Grand Prix, Tokyo TDC Gold Prize, Asahi Advertising Award, Kamekura Yusaku Award, Good Design Award, Japan Package Design Award Gold Medal, and Design for Asia Award Grand Prix.
He is also a guest professor at Meiji Gakuin University and Tama Art University, board member of the Tokyo Art Directors Club, Tokyo Type Directors Club, and Japan Graphic Designers Association.
